Brian Madigan’s Story of Change and Growth

Brian Madigan is a Life Path Mentor who sees spiritual work and practical success as closely connected. He wants to help others develop something he was blessed with at an early age, something he describes as “an absolute confidence that whatever is happening, it's happening for a reason.”

Trusting Inner Wisdom

Connecting with spirit has been an integral part of Brian’s life from his earliest years. His loving family raised him in the Catholic faith, where Brian was an altar boy and choir boy. Even then, he was drawn to helping others with spiritual growth. He considered joining the priesthood, but realized he needed a different spiritual home. "My heart was telling me if the Church doesn't accept me, as I am, as a gay man, as God made me... then I don't belong here." Brian carries no grudges, only precious memories of the rituals. He’s grateful for the early curiosity it sparked. "That drive for relationship with creator was there. I’ve always sought to deepen that connection."

That need for connection led to lifelong exploration. In his teens and twenties, Brian explored Wicca, Western High Magic, Yoga and Kabbalah. Like most people, he kept his spiritual life and “real life” separate.

Finding a Calling

While one part of Brian sought spiritual growth, the other took care of the practical matters. He finished an intensive one-year IT program and quickly jumped into the workforce, not yet twenty years old.

Throughout his career, Brian’s spiritual practices helped him achieve success. He earned his BSc in computer science and rose to a director-level role in a large corporation. He found the most satisfaction in managing people and in coaching them to develop professionally while encouraging them to develop personally as well. “While I was reasonably happy in my career, I felt I could be doing more. I wanted the support and development I was offering my staff to be the focus of my work, rather than just part of being a good manager.”

He took the first step toward a major career change when he began learning about alternative healing. He started with Shiatsu, and quickly discovered Reiki and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). He started a part-time practice, but kept his day job, and the security that comes with it.

Trusting and Creating Change

Brian launched Energy Works Wellness in 2007, as he left his corporate career, expanding his business into a stress management practice. He combined the energy work of Reiki with the mind-centered work of NLP, and brought his years of coaching as a manager to the mix.

Around the same time, Brian was initiated as a priest in the African faith of Ifa. He had begun to investigate Ifa, an African shamanic tradition born in what is now Nigeria, a couple of years earlier. He had signed up for a Life Path reading, a divination that deals with matters related to destiny. The information made his need to change his life more urgent.

“I wanted to take the next step and get on track with my destiny. I needed to connect more strongly with what the next step on my path was." He had only a vague plan, but a supportive husband and sign after sign that it was time to move on. Finally, he quit his job, moving forward with the faith that had always grounded him.

Success and Spirit

It took some time to get fully into motion. "All the obstacles had been removed, including the financial ones, and I wasn't doing... anything." That's not entirely accurate, but the sentiment reflects a frustration that things weren't easily coming together. Brian was offering Reiki and using NLP for a few life-coaching clients, but something wasn't fitting.

And that's when he realized that his initial focus -- to help people deal with their stress -- was more narrow than it needed to be. He was doing Current readings for friends and himself but wasn't bringing them to his clients. "I was seeing people make some pretty amazing changes when they were willing to align with their energies and destiny." Now the readings are the focus, with the energy work and NLP supplementary tools.

"Everyone is unique," he points out. "My tool-set is very adaptable, no matter where a client is coming from. That's the beauty. None of it asks people to give up what they know." Brian's confidence and enthusiasm puts new clients at ease, and the insights earn their trust. Encouragement in connecting with their own wisdom, and support in making courageous choices is what gives them real-life results.

“I’ve discovered how important support is. I want everyone to experience what I have.”, he says, “While things may not be perfect, the Universe always wants you to be happy and whole. Believe it or not, you are being supported in moving toward your happiest life, now and always. My job is to support you in making that discovery for yourself.”
